TFiOS Love

Hola, Lovelies

I have recently encountered The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Knowing about the book for months, yet feeling no real urgency to read it despite everyone's praises. Yes, I would agree that Mr. Green is an amazing author, youtuber, and person. I just didn't feel the need to read a book that everyone is raving about that ends in tragedy. I just wouldn't be a part of it. I am my own person and I will do what I want.

Although reluctant about reading the book, I watched the full trailer for TFiOS. I was surprised at how much it pulled me in. From there, I proceeded to click on the free, full audio version of the book on youtube.

I have never liked listening to books. Never. I would rather have something physical to hold, to read. Holding a book and imaging a scene is much more enjoyable compared to sitting or doing something while trying to focus on the words swimming through the air.

No, swimming is the wrong word. Floating. The words were floating in the air around me as I sat curled up on my bed. I found myself captivated from the very start (only a bit unfocused at moments due to twitter and facebook). I could picture everything perfectly. A true love story laced with tragedy. But, still quite enjoyable.

Let me just say this. The Fault in Our Stars is worth reading, listening to, and the like. As it would be, I never finished the book. I'll explain. Due to youtube and the monstrosity it can turn out to be, I was left with 20 minutes left when it decided to freeze and then have an error. To be clear, this was a seven and a quarter hour audio book and there were only 20 minutes left. 20.

To be fair to youtube, I didn't really want to finish the book anyways. I had my suspicions of how it may end (much like An Imperial Affliction), but I just didn't want the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster to end. Okay, here's how I figure. I know what happened to Augustus and the truth about Peter Van Houghton's family. Did I really want to find out about Hazel in the last few minutes and possibly cry. No, I did not.

I will most likely reread this book, but I don't believe I will ever read past the point where I ended the first time, mid sentence and all. In a way, this is my own version of the AIA ending.

So, that is that.
